Graphic Design for the web
Designing a website is not the same thing as designing for print. When the web was developed, it was meant to be a purely text medium and it stayed that way until the mid-1990s. However, designers have been pushing for some graphic potential to make it more interesting and engaging.
Although designing for web is now a reality, it is not the same as designing for print – it’s vastly different. While print designers are given absolute control over weight, texture, size, and colour of the paper on which their designs will be printed, web designers have limited control in terms of how their work is seen by the viewer as there are so many screen sizes and to take into consideration devices (desktop monitors, digital media projectors, mobile phones, iPads etc) – and the website must display well across all.
It’s important to understand that graphic designers and website designers are two completely separate roles. While some of the design fundamentals of graphic design are needed for website design, website designers need to have a far greater knowledgebase of the technology behind a website than a graphic artist would simply have a blank canvas to print to.
Ready to Ignite Your Website?
If you are not satisfied with your current website designer or SEO, call me, Nicole Brooke. I’m highly efficient and always available.
Finding a graphic designer that can also successfully design for the web is a rarity. Often graphic designers attempts of creating a website result in your website looking more like a A4 page brochure than a slick sophisticated interactive website that will adapt to any sized device.
However, the graphic design element of creating a website isn’t only about making sure that web page will display well on all computers and devices. It is about knowing how to design your website in such a way that it will compliment the message that you’re trying to get across so you can easily grab your visitors’ attention – “call to actions” are everything!
The design is considered one of the most important elements of a successful website. An affective design will improve your site’s usability and empower your visitors to interact with your site efficiently. And of course, it is all about making your site visually appealing so it will stand out from the crowd.
